And so it happened, somewhere in the middle of July.
There was a day both Eddie & I did a little grocery shopping together at the Cold Storage supermarket together, and the total costs of groceries actually entitled us to an in-house lucky draw ticket.
To be honest, i actually half-crumpled that ticket, intending for it to be thrown away together with the receipt on the spot. It isn't my thing to be filling up lucky draw tickets and such. I always felt it to be an utter waste of time coz i wouldn't be the fortunate one winning the prize anyways. My life hasn't been one of multiple lottery-wins.
Darling Eddie, however, sounded indignant in his 'Why not' protest, and proceeded to grab the ticket from my hands and filled up his particulars on that now crease-lined ticket. Carefully stapling it together with that longggg receipt of ours, he slipped the lot into the slot box to join its many likes, completed by infinite strangers who also carried the same shuffling hope of prize.
To be very very honest, I didn't even know what that draw ticket could get me even in the chance we had been picked. (I never read the ticket.) I didn't have a clue at all, until the Lady called up to notify us that WE GOT PICKED!
Wow! Out of the probably thousands of Cold Storage's patronisers in Singapore, we were one of the 6 tickets picked by somebody's hand! Oh bless that man.
And so after further correspondences and about a week later, we were dressed in our 'race' attire and standing in front of the Cold Storage branch at Centrepoint, waiting for instructions. There were media crews, cameras, models, journalists, & some big shots whom i have no idea who. We had our pictures taken, and some filming done, and also an interview which was answered mainly by me because my darling boy is too shy. Haha! We both silently agreed that we look like crap in their official race polo tee which we were obligated to wear for the event.
With 6 teams, 2 to each team, we were supposed to race down the supermarket, picking up grocery items amounting to a designated cost set by the game planners, and stuffing them into our trolleys and out the checkpoint in 2 minutes. The team with the amount closest to the set cost number wins.
Okay here i must say that the game is actually much simplier than that. Because THEY ALREADY LET US KNOW THE DESIGNATED AMOUNT BEFORE THE GAME EVEN STARTED. So we could actually walk the entire supermarket beforehand and note the few products that will get us to exactly $289.00.
Q&A round first, and we didnt answer any questions. Eddie didn't feel the need to win extra time to add to our 2 minutes. He felt that was overtly sufficient.
So the horn blasted, the flags came down, and the race started. Well, what can i say... The trolley is super heavy and hard to control when you are racing at top speed down aisle and aisle of jars and cans. Luckily i have experience with that since i was young. (Haha!) I maneuvered the trolley with GOOD HANDLING, while Darling picked up our pre-chosen items, and carried heavy rice sacks ala coolie-style into our trolley marked '004'. And after rushing around a lot, we were out the checkpoint in 1 minute!
Okay let's skip all the commotion and game MC jokes and all that in between. Here comes the sad part, the results. We didn't win. You know why? BECAUSE they FRIGGIN put the normal Milo price card in FRONT of the cans of Mocha-flavoured Milo. It's our REALLY BIG BAD for not reading the price tags thoroughly. Mocha-flavoured Milo is slighly more expensive, so we overshot the cost by a bit.
Anyway, there was a tie between 2 teams and they did another race again to get the winner, since there could ONLY be ONE winner. One FIRST prize, and the rest were all CONSOLATION prizes. So sad.
The winner went home with $500 worth of Shell petrol vouchers + $500 worth of Cold Storage vouchers. The rest of us had to settle with $100 worth of Shell petrol vouchers + $100 worth of Cold Storage vouchers. Not too bad la right... Haha...
Eddie was quite sore about the Milo cans incident and refused to let me mention the word 'Milo' after the competition.
Haha! So silly my darling boy...
Pictures!

3 cheers, and 3 cheers, and 3 cheers for team 4!
Hip hip hurray! (Ha!)
